The condition known as pectus carinatum can be corrected over time through the use of a brace. Most products available on the market do not address issues such as comfort, as the brace is worn continuously throughout the day as well as at night. Additional considerations when designing a pectus carinatum brace for a child, must address the individual’s growth over the duration of treatment -the brace must be adjustable. As the majority of sufferers are pre-adolescent males, there is an additional need for the chest brace for pectus carinatum to be ‘invisible’ under their clothing. These factors led to the design of Carbon Based’s well-received and highly successful orthosis brace product line.

The P4COsa© is more comfortable to wear and sleep in than other devices, the P4COsa© orthosis brace is recommended for all age groups. It is especially suited for those over 10yrs of age and those with mild to severe deformity. As a chest brace for ‘pigeon chest’ correction, the P4COsa© is modular and has adjustability for growth and offers patient adjustable corrective sternal pressure.

Carbon Fiber construction lends a light weight, sleek profile that disappears under clothes.
Factory-set corrective tension is used initially, then as the deformity becomes more supple, the patient has the ability to turn a screw on the front of the orthosis and increase sternal pressure
to promote further correction. With a maximum of 3/8” travel on the PACU (Patient Adjustable Compression Unit), over-tightening of the compression unit, which could cause skin breakdown, can be
averted.
A special gel sternal pad and soft thoracic pads apply a gentle, compressive force to flatten the sternal prominence. The gentle compressive forces exerted by the sternal and thoracic pads afford
comfort for long-term wear, which is crucial to treatment success.
